Elevator Outage Notification Process:

In the event of an elevator requiring maintenance or repairs that are expected to exceed 30 minutes, a notification process is in place to ensure timely response and effective communication. This process aims to minimize inconvenience for building occupants while facilitating swift resolution of elevator issues.

Out of Order Indication:

The elevator technician or work control team will promptly inform the Facilities Management (FM) Public Information Representative (PIR) and the Facilities Maintenance Operations Specialist regarding the nature of the elevator outage.

The Facilities Maintenance Operations Specialist takes charge of overseeing the maintenance or repair activities to ensure their efficient completion.

Upon identifying an elevator outage, a sticker will be placed over the elevator's operational button, indicating that the elevator is temporarily out of service.

This sticker will be promptly removed as soon as the elevator is fully operational.

Communication Reach:

The FM PIR will notify various relevant parties of the elevator outage, including:

Accessibility Resource Center (ARC)
Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO)
Department Heads within the building
Area Manager of the building
Building Coordinators

Website Update:

The FM PIR will promptly update the Facilities Management (FM) website to inform the University community about the ongoing elevator outage.

This online notification ensures that those who may be affected are informed of the situation.

Weekend and After-Hours Outages:

*NOTE* In cases where an elevator outage occurs over the weekend or after 5 p.m. during weekdays, the notification will be posted on the FM website and sent out via appropriate channels on the next business day.

This comprehensive approach to elevator outage management and communication ensures that all relevant parties are promptly informed, enabling them to take appropriate measures while ensuring the effective restoration of elevator services.

In cases where the repair is projected to take longer than 30 minutes, a notification regarding the outage will be distributed to relevant individuals and will also be posted on the FM website.

When an elevator is out of order, a technician will assess and troubleshoot the issue before determining the next steps.
